1. The manner in which mechanical power is directly transmitted from the drive shaft to the wheels. The following codes are used in the drive field: (1.) AWD = All Wheel Drive: four-wheel drive automatically controlled by the vehicle powertrain system. (2.) 4WD = 4-Wheel Drive: driver selectable four-wheel drive with 2-wheel drive option. (3.) 2WD = 2-Wheel Drive.
2. Determined by the number and location of drive axles (e.g., front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, four wheel drive) and any other feature of the drive system if the Administrator determines that such other features may result in a fuel economy difference.
