1. A mathematical formulation describing and simulating the physical behavior of a system or a process and its temporal variability.

2. A model providing the time-varying behavior of the state variables.

3. Considers the individual within a community rather than the isolated individual. Time-dependent elements such as secondary transmission, host immunity, and animal reservoirs are included. [ILSI 2000 text]
