Ecological Connectivity

1. A term referring to the connected system of open space throughout an ecosystem and adjacent ecosystems. Includes the presence of ecotones, the transitional regions between ecosystems.
2. A parameter of landscape function that measures the processes by which a set of populations are interconnected into a metapopulation (adapted from Baudry and Merriam 1988:23).
