Ecosystem Attributes

A biological, physical, or chemical characteristic or feature inherent to an ecosystem/environment. Context: In economic valuation studies, ecosystem attributes refer to the set of ecological features that individually and as a group contribute to the enjoyment of a valued experience, such as a recreational or aesthetic experience (for example, a day of fishing). Example: Surface water clarity (e.g., as measured by Secchi disk depth) is an attribute of water in its natural environment, which can affect recreational users' enjoyment of the environment. In particular, it is an example of a water quality attribute.
