Energy-efficiency ratio
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-009577
A measure of how efficiently a cooling system (i.e. air conditioner, heat pump) operates when the outdoor temperature is at a specific level (i.e. 95 degrees Fahrenheit). It represents the ratio of heat removed (Btu/hour) to the electricity required to run the system (watts). The higher the EER, the more efficient the system is.
