Ephemeral Waters

1. Water bodies (e.g., streams or wetlands) that contain water for brief periods, usually in direct response to a precipitation event. Ephemeral waters generally flow for a shorter time period than intermittent waters, although in some cases the terms are used interchangeably (see intermittent waters).

2. Surface water flowing or pooling only in direct response to precipitation (e.g., rain or snow fall). [40 CFR 120.2 (CFR 2020)
