Fish unsafe to eat (fish consumption advisory) means that eating fish or shellfish caught from the waterway has been limited or banned, usually for certain species of fish/shellfish and for one or more chemicals, microbes or other conditions. In rivers and lakes, fish consumption advisories are usually issued because contaminants such as mercury or PCBs exceed safe limits in fish tissue. In coastal waters, shellfish harvesting may be banned due to unsafe levels of bacteria.\n\n2.
