Functioning ground water monitoring system

A system of test wells installed around a source to detect migration of hazardous substances. In evaluating the containment factor in the ground water pathway, the emphasis is on the functioning of the monitoring system. Thus, wells that are not sampled or maintained do not constitute a functioning ground - water monitoring system.
