Ground penetrating radar

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-012661

  1. 1. A geophysical method that uses high frequency electromagnetic waves to obtain subsurface information. The waves are radiated into the subsurface by an emitting antenna. When a wave strikes a suitable object, a portion of the wave is reflected back to the receiving antenna.

    2. A geophysical method in which bursts of electromagnetic energy are transmitted downwards from the surface, to be reflected and refracted by velocity contrasts within the subsurface. Also known as Ground Probing Radar.

  2. 1. GPR is a technology that emits pulses of electromagnetic energy into the ground to measure its reflection and refraction by subsurface layers and other features, such as buried debris.

    2. A geophysical method that uses high frequency electromagnetic waves to obtain subsurface information.
