Heat Rate
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-013066
1. For a unit, the unit's maximum design heat input (in Btu/hr), divided by the product of 1,000,000 Btu/mmBtu and the unit's maximum hourly load. [40 CFR 97.402 (CFR 2013)] [40 CFR 97.502 (CFR 2013)][40 CFR 97.602 (CFR 2013)]
2. A measure of generating station thermal efficiency commonly stated as Btu per kilowatthour. Note: Heat rates can be expressed as either gross or net heat rates, depending whether the electricity output is gross or net generation. Heat rates are typically expressed as net heat rates.
3. For a unit, the quotient (in mmBtu/unit of load) of the unit's maximum design heat input rate (in Btu/hr) divided by the product of 1,000,000 Btu/mmBtu and the unit's maximum hourly load.[40 CFR 97.402 (CFR 2017)][40 CFR 97.502 (CFR 2017)][40 CFR 97.602 (CFR 2017)]
