Measurement endpoint
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-016817
1. A measurable ecological characteristic that is related to the valued characteristic chosen as the assessment endpoint. Measurement endpoints often are expressed as the statistical or arithmetic summaries of the observations that make up the measurement. As used in this guidance document, measurement endpoints can include measures of effect and measures of exposure, which is a departure from U.S. EPA's (1992a) definition which includes only measures of effect. (pertains to ecological assessments)
2. A measurable ecological characteristic that is related to the valued characteristic chosen as the assessment endpoint (Suter 1990). RAF added to Suter: " Measurement endpoints are often expressed as the statistical or arithmetic summaries of the observations that comprise [sic] the measurement".
3. A measurable ecological characteristic that is related to the valued characteristic chosen as the assessment endpoint. Also known as "measure of effect."
4. A measurable characteristic of ecological entity that can be related to an assessment endpoint; e.g. a laboratory test for eight species meeting certain requirements may serve as a measure of effect for an assessment endpoint, such as survival of fish, aquatic, invertebrate or algal species under acute exposure.
A measurable ecological characteristic that is related to the valued characteristic chosen as the assessment endpoint and is a measure of biological effects (e.g., death, reproduction, growth) of particular species, and they can include measures of exposure as well as measures of effects. Measures of effect often are expressed as the statistical or numerical assessment endpoint summaries of the observations that make up the measurement.
