Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-017206

1. Surroundings that can be treated as homogeneous or well characterized in the concentrations of an agent (e.g., home, office, automobile, kitchen, store).

2. A particular part of the large environment that is in some way whole by itself. Used to describe a subset of the global environment such as the indoor environment.

3. A small space in which human contact with a pollutant takes place. AirToxScreen uses estimated cohort activities in several indoor, outdoor and in-vehicle microenvironments: Indoor locations: residence, office, store, school, restaurant, church, manufacturing facility, auditorium, healthcare facility, service station, other public building, and garage; Outdoor locations: parking lot/garage, near road, motorcycle, service station, construction site, residential grounds, school, sports arena, and park/golf course; In-vehicle locations: car, bus, truck, train/subway, airplane, and other.

4. A small space in which human contact with a pollutant takes place. NATA uses estimated cohort activities in several indoor, outdoor and in-vehicle microenvironments: Indoor locations: residence, office, store, school, restaurant, church, manufacturing facility, auditorium, healthcare facility, service station, other public building, and garage; Outdoor locations: parking lot/garage, near road, motorcycle, service station, construction site, residential grounds, school, sports arena, and park/golf course; In-vehicle locations: car, bus, truck, train/subway, airplane, and other.

5. Surroundings that can be treated as homogeneous or well characterized in the concentrations of an agent (e.g., home, office, automobile, kitchen, store). This term is generally used for estimating inhalation exposures. [IPCS 2004]
