Nearshore

1. The relatively shallow waters between the shoreline and deeper, open waters.
2. The zone which extends from the swash zone to the position marking the start of the offshore zone, typically at water depths of the order of 20 m.
3. Operating area defined as extending seaward 12 miles from the boundary lines defined in 46 CFR part 7, except in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf of Mexico, it means the area extending 12 miles from the line of demarcation (COLREG lines) defined in 49 CFR 80.740 and 80.850.
4. Relatively shallow waters between the shoreline and deeper, open waters.
