Objectivity

1. One of three main components of quality in EPA's Information Quality Guidelines. Objectivity includes whether disseminated information is being presented in an accurate, clear, complete and unbiased manner. In addition, objectivity involves a focus on ascertaining accurate, reliable and unbiased information.

2. A criterion for information quality under the OMB and EPA Information Quality Guidelines (IQGs). Objectivity involves two distinct elements: presentation and substance. Specifically, objectivity focuses on whether the disseminated information is being presented in an accurate, clear, complete, and unbiased manner, and as a matter of substance, is accurate, reliable, and unbiased. In a scientific or statistical context, the original or supporting data shall be generated, and the analytical results shall be developed, using sound statistical and research methods.
