Particulate Matter by Size

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-020312

X refers to the diameter at which the sampler collects 50% of the particles and rejects 50% of the particles. Collection efficiency increases for particles with smaller diameters and decreases for particles with larger diameters. The variation of collection efficiency with size is given by a collection efficiency curve. The definition of PMx is frequently abbreviated as “particles with a nominal mean aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to x μm.
