Passive solar heating
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-020361
1. Designing a home's windows, walls, and floors to collect, store, and distribute solar energy in the form of heat in the winter and reject solar heat in the summer. Unlike active solar heating systems, passive solar design doesn't involve the use of mechanical and electrical devices, such as pumps, fans, or electrical controls to move the solar heat.
2. The use of windows, building materials, and other features to take advantage of sunlight to heat the inside of a building.
3. A solar heating system that uses no external mechanical power, such as pumps or blowers, to move the collected solar heat.
