Process Heater
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-022281
1. Device that is primarily used to heat a material to initiate or promote a chemical reaction in which the material participates as a reactant or catalyst. [40 CFR 60.41b (CFR 2013)]
2. Enclosed combustion device used to transfer heat indirectly to process stream materials (liquids, gases, or solids) or to a heat transfer material for use in a process unit instead of steam, [40 CFR 60.101a (CFR 2013)].
3. Enclosed combustion device that transfers heat released by burning fuel directly to process streams or to heat transfer liquids other than water. [40 CFR 63.681 (CFR 2013)]
4. Device that transfers heat liberated by burning fuel to fluids contained in tubes, including all fluids except water that is heated to produce steam. [40 CFR 60.611 (CFR 2013)] [40 CFR 60.661 (CFR 2013)]
5. Enclosed combustion device that transfers heat liberated by burning fuel directly to process streams or to heat transfer liquids other than water. A process heater may, as a secondary function, heat water in unfired heat recovery sections.
6. Enclosed device using a controlled flame, the primary purpose of which is to transfer heat to a process fluid or process material that is not a fluid, or to a heat transfer material for use in a process (rather than for steam generation). [40 CFR 63.761 (CFR 2013)]
7. Enclosed combustion device that primarily transfers heat liberated by burning fuel directly to process streams or to heat transfer liquids other than water.
