Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-022868

2. A broad general analysis to determine whether a more extensive analysis is necessary. It essentially answers the question " safe or unsafe".

3. Riak assessment based on data which, while forming an inadequate basis for numerical risk estimations, nonetheless, when conditioned by prior expert knowledge and identification of attendant uncertainties permits risk ranking or separation into descriptive categories of risk. [CAC 1999, FAO/WHO 2003b]

4. Risk assessment that is based on qualitative data or giving a qualitative result. The results are often stated in an estimated range, such as "there is a moderate to high risk of a certain outcome occurring." [FDA 2001]
