Relative Sea Level Rise
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-023709
1. The increase in ocean water levels at a specific location, taking into account both global sea level rise and local factors, such as local subsidence and uplift. Relative sea level rise is measured with respect to a specified vertical datum relative to the land, which may also be changing elevation over time.
2. Occurs where there is a local increase in the level of the ocean relative to the land, which might be due to ocean rise or land subsidence.
3. Rise in sea level measured with respect to a specified vertical datum relative to the land, which may also be changing elevation over time; typically measured using a tide gauge; compare with global sea-level rise. .
