Salt Water Intrusion

1. The invasion of fresh surface or ground water by salt water. If it comes from the ocean it may be called sea water intrusion.
2. Displacement of fresh or ground water by the advance of salt water due to its greater density, usually in coastal and estuarine areas.
3. Advancement of salt water causing displacement of fresh or ground water (due to salt water’s greater density) when encroaching on freshwater boundaries.
