Secondary pollutant

1. Pollutants generated by chemical reactions occurring within the atmosphere.
2. Any pollutant that is formed by atmospheric reactions of precursor or primary emissions. An example of a secondary pollutant is ground-level ozone, which forms from chemical reactions involving airborne nitrogen oxides, airborne volatile organic compounds, and sunlight.
