1. The unwanted, unused, and generally unmerchantable accumulation of woody material, such as large limbs, tops, cull logs, and stumps, that remains as forest residue after timber harvesting.
2. Woody debris left in the forest as the result of an anthropogenic activity such as logging.
3. Residue, including treetops, branches, and bark, left on the ground after logging or accumulating as a result of a storm, fire, delimbing, or other similar disturbance. [40 CFR 80.1401 (CFR 2013)]
