Sole Source Aquifer

An aquifer that supplies 50 percent or more of the drinking water of an area.
1. An aquifer that supplies 50-percent or more of the drinking water of an area.
2. A Sole Source Aquifer is an aquifer which has been designated as the "sole or principal" source of drinking water for an area. The program was established under Section 1424(e) of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974. The regulations relating to Sole Source Aquifers are found at Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 149.
