Tailings

1. Residue of raw material or waste separated out during the processing of crops or mineral ores.

2. The remaining portion of a metal-bearing ore after some or all of a metal, such as uranium, has been extracted.

3. Rock and other waste materials removed as impurities when minerals are mined and mineral deposits are processed. These materials are usually dumped on the ground or into ponds.

4. Tailings are waste from processing ore to extract a desired mineral. The waste may contain radioactive elements that release high levels of radiation into the environment.
