Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-030037
As authorized by the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) (https://www.epa.gov/npdes) permit program controls water pollution by regulating sources, such as municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities, that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States. EPA tracks water discharge permits through the Permit Compliance System (PCS) and Integrated Compliance Information System (ICIS) databases, which includes information on when a permit was issued and when it expires, how much the company is permitted to discharge, and the actual monitoring data showing what the company has discharged.
