Wellhead Protection Area

1. A protected surface and subsurface zone surrounding a well or well field that supplies a public water system and through which contaminants could likely reach well water.

2. The area surrounding a drinking water well or well field which is protected to prevent contamination of the well(s).

3. A protected surface and subsurface zone surrounding a well or well field supplying a public water system to keep contaminants from reaching the well water.

4. The surface and subsurface area surrounding a well or well field, supplying a public water system (PWS), through which contaminants are reasonably likely to move toward and reach such water well or well field.
