In horizontal directional drilling, a locating technology that uses a sensor in the sonde that senses its location and orientation relative to a natural or induced magnetic field. The sensor sends the drillhead’s orientation information to the driller through a wire within the drill pipe; the wire also supplies power to the sonde.
