The final phase of flight, from a defined point or altitude, during which an aircraft is maneuvered into position for landing on a runway. This segment involves precise control of airspeed, altitude, and heading to follow a designated flight path, either visually or using instrument guidance. An instrument landing system (ILS) approach provides both lateral guidance via a localizer and vertical guidance via a glideslope.
