A localizer, which is a component of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) that provides horizontal guidance to an aircraft during an approach to a runway. It transmits a radio signal that allows the pilot to align the aircraft with the runway centerline. The localizer signal typically has a range of 18 nautical miles.
