Cab forward

A locomotive design where the operating cab is located at the front of the engine, ahead of the boiler or power unit. This configuration was primarily developed for steam locomotives to improve visibility for the crew, especially in tunnels or areas with smoke accumulation. The Southern Pacific Railroad's AC-class locomotives are a notable example of this design.
