Clack door

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006857

A hinged valve or flap within the valve chest of a reciprocating pump, particularly older water pumps used in mining. The door opens to allow water to pass through in one direction during the suction or delivery stroke and closes automatically from back pressure to prevent reverse flow. Its operation produces a characteristic 'clack' sound, from which it gets its name.
