Pump valve

A check valve fitted in the suction or discharge passage of a reciprocating pump that opens to let liquid pass one way and closes against backflow as the piston or plunger reverses. Common forms are ball, disc, poppet, and flap valves, which open and close by pressure difference alone. A single-acting pump chamber has one suction valve and one discharge valve.
