A standardized, reusable steel box used for the intermodal transport of goods without the need for unloading and reloading the contents at transfer points. These units are designed to be moved between ships, trains, and trucks, secured by standardized corner fittings called twistlocks. The most common container sizes are defined by ISO 668, with standard lengths of 20 feet (6.1 m) and 40 feet (12.2 m).
