The set of technical standards for industrial activities in Japan, coordinated by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee and published by the Japanese Standards Association. These standards, known as Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), cover a vast array of products and technologies, from automotive and electronics to steel and chemicals. Products that meet the requirements can display the JIS mark, which certifies quality and interchangeability.
