Jinny road

A self-acting incline where the weight of descending full tubs is used to haul ascending empty tubs to a higher level. The roadway is fitted with a track and a rope or chain system looped around a brake wheel at the top of the incline. The brake operator, or jinny-man, controls the speed of the tubs on this gravity-powered transport system.
