Lap belt

A type of safety restraint in a vehicle or aircraft that secures the occupant across the pelvis. It consists of a strap that fastens over the lap, preventing the wearer from being thrown forward in a sudden stop or collision. While providing some protection, lap belts are less effective than three-point seat belts, which also restrain the upper torso.
