Make-before-break
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003508
A contact configuration in an electrical switch or relay where the new connection is established before the old connection is fully interrupted. This design prevents a momentary open circuit during the switching operation, maintaining continuity of the electrical path. Such contacts are used in applications where even a brief interruption of current flow is undesirable, such as in certain control circuits.
