Radio-frequency identification

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004656

A technology that employs radio waves to read and capture information stored on a tag attached to an object. A complete radio-frequency identification (RFID) system consists of a tag with a microchip and antenna, a reader with its own antenna, and a data processing subsystem. Passive tags are powered by the reader's interrogation signal and have a shorter read range, while active tags use an internal battery for a longer range and greater memory capacity.
