Radish ripper

A farmers' nickname for forage radish, also called tillage radish, a cover crop grown for its thick taproot. Left in the ground over winter, the large roots loosen compacted soil. The nickname belongs to the plant, a form of Raphanus sativus, and not to any harvesting implement.
