Ringdown

A signaling method in telephony where a continuous or pulsed alternating current (AC) signal is sent over a telephone line to alert the receiving party. This signal causes the telephone bell to ring, indicating an incoming call. It is commonly used in older telephone systems and for dedicated private line circuits.
