Second source

An alternative supplier for a component, material, or service that is interchangeable with the one from the primary supplier. Companies establish second sources to mitigate supply chain risks, such as interruptions from the primary vendor, and to create price competition. For a supplier to qualify as a second source, its product must meet the same specifications and quality standards as the original.
