Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005430

A self-propelled vehicle designed for travel on snow, steered by skis at the front and propelled by a continuous track at the rear. Primarily used for recreation, it also serves as a utility vehicle for transport and work in remote, snow-covered areas where other vehicles cannot operate. Unlike a snowcat, which is a larger, fully enclosed cab-over-engine vehicle, a snowmachine is an open vehicle on which the rider sits astride the engine.
