Computer virus
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-000886
A type of malicious software that attaches to another program and, when run, spreads by inserting its own instructions into other computer programs or data files. This replication process can corrupt or delete data, disrupt system performance, or log keystrokes to steal information. Unlike a worm, which is a standalone program, a virus requires a host program to be activated and cannot spread without human action, such as opening an infected file.
