Deposit accounting

An accounting method used for certain insurance contracts, particularly those that primarily transfer financial risk rather than insurance risk. Under deposit accounting, premiums received are treated as deposits rather than revenue, and claims paid are treated as withdrawals. This method is applied when the contract does not meet the criteria for risk transfer under accounting standards.
