Effective tax rate

The actual percentage of income that an individual or corporation pays in taxes, calculated by dividing the total tax paid by the total taxable income. This rate differs from the statutory tax rate, which is the legally imposed rate before deductions, credits, and exemptions are applied. It provides a more accurate picture of the tax burden on earnings.
