Hands-on assistance

Physical assistance from another person, at a minimal, moderate, or maximal level, without which an insured could not perform an activity of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, continence, or transferring. Together with standby assistance, it is one of the two forms of substantial assistance that count toward the claim trigger in a tax-qualified long-term care policy, which generally requires assistance with at least two of the six activities of daily living.
