Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-001703
An individual or group that uses computer hacking techniques to promote a political agenda or social cause. Their actions range from website defacement and denial-of-service attacks to data theft and leaks intended to embarrass or harm a target organization. Unlike cybercriminals motivated by financial gain, hacktivists are driven by ideology, a distinction relevant for cyber insurance policies which differentiate between types of cyber attacks when defining coverage.
