A malicious cyberattack that aims to make a computer system, network resource, or website unavailable to its intended users by overwhelming it with traffic or requests. A distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack uses multiple compromised computer systems as sources of attack traffic. These attacks can cause substantial operational disruption and financial losses for affected organizations.
