Material misrepresentation

A false statement of a material fact made by an applicant for insurance that influences the insurer's decision to accept the risk or the premium charged. If the insurer had known the truth, it would not have issued the policy or would have issued it on different terms. Such a misrepresentation can lead to the voiding of the policy by the insurer.
