Online Privacy Protection Act of 2003

A California state law, also known as CalOPPA, that requires operators of commercial websites or online services that collect personally identifiable information from California residents to post a conspicuous privacy policy. The policy must detail the kinds of information gathered and identify any third parties with whom it is shared. This statute was one of the first in the United States to mandate such disclosures and has influenced subsequent privacy legislation nationwide.
